When it comes to cover design most new authors and some older believe you're supposed to design a cover that you like. What I mean by designing a cover you like is picking colors because you haven't done a book cover in pink in awhile, or lets throw diamonds on my cover although my character never comes in contact with diamonds. Don't get me wrong, you definitely should like what you're paying for, but more thought needs to go into your cover design. Can you imagine spending your hard earned money on a cover that only confuses your readers and makes them pass up what could be a perfectly great book! Exactly! So Below are my top 10 tips! Let's get those ideas going!
Research the covers in your genres Top 100! Check Your Platform (ex. Amazon, BN, iBooks.)
Do you have your brand aligned with your book cover designs? (ex. set fonts, colors, models or objects.)?
What am I trying to make my readers feel when they see my covers?
Does my idea reflect the genre I am writing?
What can I add to each of my covers to symbolize my brand?
Images should be well-recognizable in thumbnails.
It’s better to choose an image with a single focus.
Avoid allowing your subtitle to overshadow your title
Don't over clutter your cover! it confuses the readers.
Your cover design should surround your plot! (ex. The plot is the story, and more specifically, how the story develops, unfolds, and moves in time.)
